Tell Me Everything That Puts Your Mind At Ease
I heard that quote recently and it kind of took me by surprise. I’ve always loved listening to people’s stories and gleaning some sort of insight into what makes people love what they do, what makes them tick and why they are where they are today. People have very fascinating layers; you just have to take the time to talk to them.
I’ve always been a people-person – as far back as I can remember I wanted to be at the adult table at family functions because the grown-ups had better conversations (and fancy drinks!). I’ve taken this need for conversation into my career as an Organizational Communication Specialist; people are what drives our companies and I think that if you just take the time to talk to them, you will understand why a company functions a certain way. I guess I want everyone to feel like they are at the adult table of life and that their stories matter and that someone is there to help share their story or just to listen.
In my career with Saint-Gobain, I’ve learned that people love when someone takes the time to get to know them. People just want to feel heard, and this includes their time at work. I’ve learned so much about our employees and our plants just by asking people about their lives. I’ve learned that we really make a difference in people’s live while interviewing Tiffany in Portage, Wisconsin. I’ve learned that people come to work for a variety of reasons and that all of them are amazing. And I’ve learned that manufacturing is an amazing business.
It’s crazy what you can learn from just asking someone the simplest of questions. So, what have you been dying to tell someone lately?
